Howard Jacobs is Founder and Proprietor of The Amsterdam, a new American farm-to-table restaurant in Rhinebeck, NY that blends his passion for superb food and exceptional hospitality with the soul of his beloved Hudson Valley community. Originally from Toronto, Howard has lived across the US and traveled around the world, always seeking out the best local food and drink on offer. After years of collecting insights and ideas from some of the best in hospitality, Howard and his wife Chris took the big leap when they purchased a landmark 1798 Dutch Colonial in the historic village center of Rhinebeck in early 2014. After more than two years of collaboration and tapping into the know-how of leading New York and nationally-renowned restaurant operators, he decided to unlock that decades old dream of opening a restaurant and the vision for The Amsterdam was born.
Prior to relocating upstate and putting on the hat of restaurateur, Howard held a number of senior executive roles in marketing, sales, business development and operations for leading enterprises such as Turner Broadcasting System, The Coca-Cola Company, The Marketing Arm (An Omnicom Group Agency), SiriusXM Radio, and until late 2015, was Executive Vice President overseeing all sports teams and entertainment sales at The Madison Square Garden Company in New York. After five+ years as a weekender, Howard now lives (deliriously happily) on a full-time basis just outside of Rhinebeck with his wife and business partner Chris, their son Dylan and dog Princess Barkley.
